Stories

We believe that the end of poverty is possible through new and/or restored relationships.  Stories allow us to view the “issues” through the eyes of those who live through the nightmare of poverty, so we share what we see in the hope that “issues” will become people.

Art in the Park

This past Saturday was the launch of our new “Art in the Park” initiative! We had been saying for a few months that if 1 person paints, then we will count it as a success….well, after a week of hitting up multiple community meals, churches, and other events with hundreds of flyers and announcements, the moment of truth was about to happen. We had the main pavilion of Walker Park in Fayetteville reserved from 2-6 pm with dinner being served around 4:30. Come 1:30 as we were loading up to head out, I got an incredibly excited...

Next Big Step!

Posted by on Mar 26, 2012 in 3 bags in 2 days | 0 comments

After the initial shock of receiving a grant wore off, Brittany and I realized that we had to sit down, create a budget, and best of all…we had to dream big. We had the opportunity to do things that we have wanted to do for a while, but were financially unable to. This grant is enabling us to be more of what we have dreamed of being and do more of what we have been dreaming of doing. We will still be the same 3B2D as always, just kicking things up a notch. We are doing this in a few different way! One of the biggest and most exciting...

Paty and Sandra

It was a little over 2 years ago whenever I first met Paty and Sandra. I remember being at Laundry Love, which is one of our regular events as 3 bags, and meeting Paty for the first time as she came to get a bag. We instantly hit it off and started talking all about her life, family, and school. I was completely blown away by her story of wanting to be one of the first in her family to go to college and how she loved to serve people and one day hopes she can help her family out. Her face lit up when she talked about how in her free time she...

Reflections

After finishing out 2 years only a few weeks ago, Brittany and Chloe have compiled some thoughts on the crazy and wonderful journey that has been, and will continue to be, 3 Bags in 2 Days.   Brittany:: “We are now at our year two marker and about 4,400 bags later, it still hasn’t hit us that this is our life. When we started this, little did we know how much it would grow and how much it would affect others and us. This year has been such a great year for us with meeting new faces and developing really strong friendships with the...

“I Keeps it Gangsta”

Last week we had the incredible opportunity of distributing over 250 of our hygiene packs at the 2011 Hope Event in Fayetteville. The event was aimed at being a connection for the homeless (specifically) veterans and lower-income families to the resources available to them in the community. Every possible resource was present and encouraging those who came through. The free resources that were distributed included:: clothes, tents, blankets, hygiene packs, hair cuts, dental/medical exams…and so much more! It was simply incredible! This...

The Heart of Who We Are

The Heart of Who We Are (words by Brittany)   If you’ve ever met one of us and asked us the question of “why bags?” we would say to you that, “the bag is just a tool for us to go and meet new faces.” When it comes down to it, that’s the heart of who we are. It’s the stories we get to hear and the stories we feel honored to share that are deeply rooted in our hearts.   Over the years we have seen so many things in our ministry. We have heard some painful stories behind the faces that we have met. One would think...

3 Bags in 2 Days is proud to announce a “back to school” opportunity that has come up for us!   We will be partnering with First United Methodist Church and Samaritan’s Feet to help provide kids in the Bentonville School District with school supplies, shoes and hygiene items! They will be supplying 350 students with these items on August 6th!   Our role in this is to provide the 350 hygiene packs for the students. We are going to create “goody bag” type packs! They will not be complete bags, just partial...

Kicked out & nowhere to go…

Kicked out & nowhere to go…

so, as I have posted a few times over the past couple days, the camp is gone. the police raided tons of camps in Fayetteville over the weekend, arresting people and destroying camps. I knew I had to go check on my friends. I was anxious as to what was going to be seen. it was as bad as I was expecting. 3 people out of the almost 15 remained. the rest had packed up and moved on, as they had done many times before. no goodbyes, no last hugs, no clue where they went to. the last 3 were leaving the next morning right before the police were...

Project Tibet

As the 3B2D team, we typically don’t send a lot of supplies overseas or anything like that. We have a few times, and have loved it. The times that we have have been awesome, but we are so in love with our supplies staying here too. It’s been one of those things where you make a list and write the pros and cons of both and you struggle with it and debate, and eventually have to make some kind of decision. To send supplies or keep it here? All this to say, groups ask us for bags quite frequently. We have to put it into...

Joplin. Susie’s Story. Renewal and Hope.

Susie, pictured at right in the camo shirt, tugged at my heart today. Her and her husband have been long time Missouri residents, currently living in Carthage, but calling Joplin home. It is where they grew up and spent many years with the family business. It is home for Susie, and her father still resides there running the business. She came when she heard the news from her father who had taken shelter with others in their basement during the tornado. Susie’s father runs a mobile home park, and apartment complexes. They did at least....
